Description: On March 14, the Hon. Navdeep Bains, the Innovation, Science and Economic Development Minister, held a news conference to announce an investment of $1.25 million to help distribute 7,500 computers to Syrian refugees and their families. The program, which will be run through Computers for Schools, will distribute refurbished computers to help refugee families settle into their new homes, communities, jobs and schools. Backed by the offices of Arif Virani and Ahmed Hussen, the announcement was held at CultureLink Settlement Services. In addition to Minister Bainsâ announcement, several other dignitaries spoke about the importance of the initiative including: Ahmed Hussen, MP for York South-Weston; CultureLink Executive Director, Ibrahim Absiye; and Toby Harper-Merrett, Executive Director of Computers for Success Canada. The news conference was well-attended and put a smile on the faces of the Syrian families who were present.
