Description: On February 18, Heritage York hosted its second Canada/Ontario/Toronto 150 event with Lieutenant Governor, The Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, OC, OOnt, as their special guest. Her Honour unveiled a portrait of John George Lambton, 1st Earl of Durham, after whom Lambton Mills and Lambton House were named by its 1860s owner, Sir William Pearce Howland. Sir William was the only American-born father of Canadian Confederation; Ontarioâs second, but first full-term, Lieutenant Governor; father of two Toronto mayors; and great-grandfather to an Ontario Chief Justice. After the unveiling, Her Honour took a tour of the historic Lambton House, escorted by Madeleine McDowell and Margo Duncan. This event was followed by Heritage Yorkâs 23rd Annual Dinner where Her Honour was the guest speaker. The dinner was held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 266/046, where Her Honour was greeted by Heritage York President Michael Freeman and by Legion First Vice-President Mike Choma.
